The Strategic Planning Department of the New York Times Media Group (The New York Times newspaper, NYTimes.com, The International Herald Tribune and WQXR radio) seeks two summer interns to provide analysis and modeling for print and online media projects. Candidates will be integral members of two to three project teams working closely with staff in the Strategic Planning Department and operations staff at the New York Times Media Group. We work closely with the senior management team to provide analysis and research that informs their decision-making in various capacities. Projects typically touch numerous functional teams, affording insights into the different dynamics and operations within the organization.
The Strategic Planning department assists The New York Times Media Group in creating overall strategy, evaluating new business opportunities, developing new products, and identifying potential partners and acquisition candidates. The summer interns will participate as integral members of Strategic Planning project teams and have these areas of responsibilities:
– Collect, analyze and synthesize information and data to develop strategies for a variety of online and print media products and businesses. Conduct in-depth analyses of economics, sales, financial and operating data from primary and secondary resources. Build analytical models and spreadsheets that aid in market analysis and decision-making. Draw conclusions from data and formulating actionable business solutions. Apply strategic frameworks to analyze and present data.
– Participate in strategy formulation.
– Work closely with internal clients and team members to identify and develop appropriate action plans and alternatives.
– Communicate ideas, objectives and results to team members and to internal clients, as appropriate.
– Some examples of past projects completed by our MBA interns include:
o Constructing P&L projections for proposed product enhancements to select verticals of the NYTimes.com website
o Examining the current revenue models in the marketplace for online video advertising
o Creating a competitive landscape of top competitor sites and their relevant performance metrics for various digital verticals
