FAQ
What does the Wharton Media & Entertainment Club do?
The club is the top resource for information on the media and entertainment industries at Wharton. We work to bring a broad range of media companies to campus for both recruiting and informational events, as well as host opportunities throughout the year for members to build relationships with recruiters, alumni, and other students with a passion for the media. We also aim to educate our members by sending out a weekly newsletter covering the latest news in the M&E industry.
Is there an M&E major at Wharton? What classes does Wharton offer?
Wharton currently does not offer an M&E major, but the curriculum is constantly being updated so that at any time there are several courses available to students with a focus on media, entertainment, and technology. As the world of media continues to evolve, new classes are developed and offered to stay current with the changing environment.
The M&E Club is however constantly developing Field Application Programs (FAPs) with some of the world’s top media companies which the students can take for credit. For more details on these and a sampling of companies currently involved, please e-mail the Club’s VP of Academics.
Lastly, Students enrolled at Wharton are permitted to take classes at the Annenberg School for Communication, widely regarded to the top school in its field.

What are the Wharton M&E Club’s main events?
The Club’s main events throughout the year include:
Career Treks to NYC and LA: Each year, we arrange visits to companies in NYC and LA. For the New York Trek, we spend a full Friday in November in the city, visiting the offices of several companies, which in the past have included MTV, Warner Music Group, the New York Times, Time, Inc., HBO, Thompson Reuters, and Omnicom. In LA, the club arranges for several students to spend two to three days in January (over winter break), visiting companies such as Disney, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Fox Digital, Paramount, and Hulu.
Guest Speakers: Throughout the year, the club brings company representatives to campus to inform students about the latest trends in media and entertainment, as well as the most current opportunities at both large and small companies.
Alumni Networking: Over the summer, the club holds two alumni/student happy hours in New York and Los Angeles. These events are an opportunity for students and alumni to build relationships based on a shared interest in our exciting industry.
80’s Party: The M&E Club hosts the most hype party of the year! Dig out your neon spandex and Members Only jackets for one crazy Thursday night in the fall.
I don’t have a background in M&E. Can I still get a job in M&E after business school?
Yes! Top media and entertainment companies are constantly looking for talent, especially if your background is in consulting or finance. Often recruiters are looking equally for smart people (no matter their background) and those with a passion and knowledge of the industry — neither of which requires a past history in M&E.
Is there someone I can speak to in the club while visiting campus?
E-mail the club presidents at contactwhartonmedia@wharton.upenn.edu, and we will try to arrange for you to meet someone in the club that matches your background and/or interests. However, a meet-up can’t be guaranteed and is subject to current students’ availability.
When can I join the club? How do I join?
You must be a Wharton student to join the club, and you can join once you’ve begun your first day of class.
If you still have questions, please e-mail contactwhartonmedia@wharton.upenn.edu.
