From Professor Scott Rosner…
Please pass this announcement and FAP description along to WSBC and M&E membership ASAP (along with any other groups you feel relevant), as I just received it from AOL Sports. We are looking for 4-6 students to work on this really interesting project. Given the very late nature of this note, please have interested students email me ASAP with a resume attached. Students will receive credit through the FAP course, which will coordinate the logistics of course registration with the student team as soon as it is formed. We are hoping to have our first meeting mid-week next week if at all possible. I know that it’s DIP week, but we’d like to have the majority of the team present for the initial client meeting. The FAP is open to first and second year students, and the FAP office will coordinate the auction points part of it.
Thanks!
Best,
Professor Rosner

Professor Fader has referred to us a fantastic and unique opportunity to develop a marketing strategy for Philadelphia-based musician and Universal/Decca recording artist Phil Roy. See below for an excerpt from the note from Decca and click here to read a fuller description posted on webcafe. If you’re interested, please follow-up w/Grey Montgomery so he can help organize a team.
Message from Garrett Shelton
The Decca Label Group
Senior Director, Marketing
“It goes without saying non-traditional approaches in the marketing of recorded music have become a necessity in the current marketplace. With the broad availability of “free” entertainment on the internet to the extraordinarily crowded media landscape, how one builds awareness and a profile for a musician and successfully monetizes their activity and artistic product is a daunting task. Decca Records recently signed Phil Roy, a Philadelphia-based singing songwriter, who has made a career out of doing the thing that never goes out of style but is still a rare talent: he writes good songs. One characteristic that makes Phil truly unique is that he thinks like a creative marketer. Over the past several months Decca and Phil have come up some some interesting angles on how to enter the marketplace with his new album, The Great Longing, but we also are not limiting the thought process to a mere record launch. For example, how can we explore and develop Phil’s relationship in culinary world (he counts James Beard Award Winner, Mark Vetri as a great friend) to make him unique in the music marketplace? How can we achieve great efficiency from our traditional marketing methods such as radio promotion and brick and mortar retail? Decca’s looking for interested MBA candidates to enter Phil’s musical world, help us develop some great ideas already on the table….and then afterwards, have a meal on that very same table.”
About Phil Roy
Phil Roy has had his songs recorded by Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, The Neville Brothers, Los Lonely Boys, Guster, Widespread Panic, Mavis Staples and many others. His songs appear in numerous films including the Academy award winners “As Good As It Gets” and “Leaving Las Vegas”. A WXPN Favorite his solo albums “grouchyfriendly” and “Issues + Options” have been released to extensive critical acclaim. Stephen Holden of the New York Times called Issues + Options “one of the 2 or 3 most satisfying albums by an American singer songwriter”. His latest release “The Great Longing” is due to be released nationally in April of 2008 on the Decca/Universal label. More info at www.philroy.com.
